The European Union imposed sanctions on Monday against two Iranian individuals and a naval unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for disrupting navigation in the Middle East, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz.
The measures target the IRGC Navy's Hormozgan Provincial Command, along with Mohammad Akbarzadeh, the navy's deputy commander for political affairs, and Hamid Hosseini, a representative of Iran’s oil and gas exporters’ union. Both men face asset freezes and EU travel bans for allegedly supporting actions that impede lawful maritime transit. The listings follow a broader expansion of the EU’s restrictive measures against Iran enacted in late May.
