Ukraine’s Constitutional Court approved amendments stripping lawmakers’ power to appoint judges, making judges liable for prosecution and introducing stricter criteria on who can become a judge, reported Reuters.
Ukrainian lawmaker Serhiy Leshchenko has revealed Swiss prosecution documents containing details of the case against Mykola Martynenko, deputy head of Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s People’s Front party.
Ukrainian news channel “24” reported that Anton Chernushenko, the chairman of the Kyiv Court of Appeal, skipped work the day after the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) authorized his arrest on corruption charges. The channel reported his wife said her husband is “on vacation.”
