Canada stands poised to seize US$26 million in assets from Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich and distribute the funds towards reconstruction efforts in Ukraine, the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly said Monday.

Canada has sanctioned six additional Haitian politicians for allegedly providing financial and operational support to armed groups who threaten Haiti’s national security, Global Affairs Canada told OCCRP Monday.

Canada and the United States individually sanctioned on Friday two Haitian political elites, whom the two countries accuse of using their positions to protect and enable criminal organizations responsible for the destabilization of Haiti and its rule of law.
