A court in Stockholm has upheld acquittal for Lars Nyberg, former president of telecoms group Telia, and two associates in a case involving multi-million dollar payments made to Gulnara Karimova, daughter of the former president of Uzbekistan.

Even as Swedish telecom TeliaSonera emphatically denied bribing Gulnara Karimova, the company was busy negotiating another secret multi-million-dollar payment to the daughter of the late Uzbek president.

Nordic telecommunications firm Telia Company will pay the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and Dutch and Swedish regulators US$ 965 million to resolve bribery allegations previously investigated by OCCRP in 2015.
