The Mexican government has targeted journalists, lawyers, and anti-corruption activists using spyware intended for monitoring criminals and terrorists, according to a report released Monday.
On two occasions, law enforcement from Belarus expressed interest in buying Hacking Team surveillance software, via a Ukrainian firm called Altron which produces hardware for recording phone calls.
Leaked email exchanges indicate Hacking Team gave permission for its spyware to be ‘presented and promoted’ to the secret police of Turkmenistan.
