The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) called on Tuesday for the release of all journalists imprisoned in Tunisia under the controversial 2022 Decree 54, which has been widely used to suppress dissent.
CPJ described the law as a “legal hammer” criminalizing routine reporting and cited multiple cases of journalists and critics facing detention or harsh penalties. According to the National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists, at least 39 cases have been filed since May 2023, with three journalists still imprisoned as of December 1.
