Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security has launched a criminal case against several Kara-Balta City Hall officials over alleged corruption in public tenders worth 1 billion soms (approx. $11.43 million).
Investigators allege tenders for construction and paving services were rigged between 2024 and 2025 under orders from Mayor D.M.R., with contractors forced to pay kickbacks of up to 15%. Three officials — including the former head of the Capital Construction Department — were detained on July 15. The investigation is ongoing.
