Kuwait’s Interior Ministry has thwarted an attempt to smuggle nearly four million Captagon tablets into the country, valued at approximately $39.3 million, state news agency KUNA reported.

The drugs were discovered hidden inside water treatment pipes following a tip-off to the General Department for Drug Control. Authorities believe the shipment originated from another Arab country and was ultimately bound for Europe.

Several individuals in Kuwait have been arrested, and coordination is underway with counterparts in the unnamed source country to pursue the main traffickers.

Captagon, an amphetamine-like stimulant, is the most widely used drug in the Middle East, with Syria believed to be the top producer.
