A court in eastern China has sentenced Luo Yulin, a former vice minister-level official at the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), to death with a two-year reprieve for accepting more than $30.7 million in bribes from 1997 to 2023.

While such sentences are typically commuted, the court ruled Luo will serve life without parole or sentence reduction. He was also given six additional years and a $1.1 million fine for leaking confidential stock market information. Authorities have confiscated all of Luo’s assets and recovered most of the illicit funds.
