Based in Washington, D.C., Zack Kopplin is an investigative journalist who joined OCCRP in 2025. He specializes in tracing illicit finance and systemic corruption by blending open-source research with a focus on acquiring records from secretive jurisdictions such as Dubai, Dominica, and Delaware.
Zack has been instrumental in several high-profile cross-border investigations, including the exposure of the Barzani family's secret luxury real estate holdings and the Passports of the Caribbean project, which revealed how international criminals exploited citizenship-by-investment programs. His work in the Middle East and Central Asia has exposed a secret weapons factory in Iraqi Kurdistan and a hidden mineral processing plant owned by the brother of the former Afghan president.
Previously, he was the lead international investigator for the Government Accountability Project, where he worked with defense-sector whistleblowers to expose military contracting fraud. He speaks functional Portuguese.
