Europol said Monday that Spanish authorities, with its support, arrested three suspected far-right extremists linked to the terrorist organisation ‘The Base’ during operations in Madrid and Valencia on November 25. The three-day operation, led by the Spanish National Police’s General Commissariat of Information and supported by Europol’s European Counter Terrorism Centre, included five house searches and the seizure of firearms, bladed weapons, ammunition, military tactical gear, propaganda, and neo-Nazi material.

Investigators said the suspects were highly radicalised, conducting paramilitary training and using social media to recruit new members and glorify extremist violence. The three individuals were part of a Spanish cell believed to be in contact with Rinaldo Nazzaro, founder of ‘The Base,’ who has urged the consolidation of international cells and selective attacks to destabilize Western democracies.

‘The Base,’ added to the EU Terrorist List in July 2024 as the bloc’s first far-right listing, operates through a network of small clandestine cells promoting a neo-Nazi accelerationist ideology aimed at undermining democratic institutions. Authorities described the operation as a significant success in combating far-right extremism in Spain and across Europe.
