Authorities in Cambodia have made a series of arrests this week, detaining nearly 1,000 people as part of an ongoing crackdown on cybercrime operations across the country. Most of those arrested are foreign nationals suspected of involvement in online scam networks.

Just in one scam center in Kratie, police arrested 312 foreigners, including nationals from Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, Indonesia, China, and Myanmar. In a separate operation in Banteay Meanchey province, 271 Indonesians were detained.

The arrests were carried out following an order from Prime Minister Hun Manet to “clean up online scams across the country.” According to the Ministry of Information, authorities conducted 18 separate crackdowns on online scams in the first half of 2025, resulting in the arrest of 2,418 individuals.
