OCCRP Partner in Georgia Wins Two Prizes

Georgian investigative team (and OCCRP partners) Studio Monitori  has won two awards in a national contest conducted by Transparency International-Georgia.

Giorgi Mgeladze was awarded first prize for his “Entrepreneur of the Parliamentarians” which uncovered a member of parliament who seized control of a prime ski area property by secretly claiming shares belonging to a family friend.

Tskriala Shermadini won second prize for “Cheated Farmers” about farmers told a new corn seed would yield huge harvests. Instead, their harvests were a bust.

Transparency International-Georgia picked the winners based on story impartiality, urgency of the problem it tackled, originality, reliability of sources, and structure and presentation.

The winning entries were televised on Maestro TV in Georgia.
