NarcoFiles, led by OCCRP and El Centro Latinoamericano de Investigación Periodística (CLIP), is primarily based on a leak of over seven million emails from the Colombian prosecutor’s office. The trove was initially obtained in 2022 by a group of “hacktivists” known as Guacamaya.
The leak reveals rare details about how transnational criminal gangs in Latin America have evolved over the years to adapt to more sophisticated law enforcement as well as a globalized market for narcotics.
