Two of the lead journalists behind the project, Zack Kopplin and Lara Dihmis, will talk about their reporting in a live OCCRP Discussion on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 10:00 U.S. Eastern Time // 16:00 Central European Time.
To join webinars like these, you must become a member of OCCRP’s Accomplice program. All donations directly fund our global network of journalists.
Dominica: Passports of the Caribbean is based on documents obtained by the Government Accountability Project that revealed the names of roughly 7,700 people who purchased “golden passports” from the tiny Caribbean nation.
These documents were then shared with OCCRP. Partners at the Guardian, Forbes and other media outlets then helped identify dozens of passport buyers. This includes: An Afghan official accused of serious human rights abuses, the head of Iraq’s central bank, and business people who later became fugitives from the law.
In this 45-minute webinar, you can expect journalists to discuss:
The big names revealed in the investigation and why they matter
The future of the “citizenship by investment” industry and how Dominica fits into it
Open source reporting techniques used in the course of the project
There will also be time for questions from the audience at the end.
Don’t worry if you can’t attend the live discussion. Every OCCRP Accomplice will receive a recording of the webinar once it’s over.
