Tom Allard joined OCCRP in 2023 as an Asia editor, leading our investigative reporting in the region. Tom specializes in Asia-Pacific organized crime, political and military corruption, and financial fraud. He lived and worked for 10 years in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, most recently as Reuters’ chief correspondent for Southeast Asia, focusing on investigations, conflict reporting, and exclusive news. He was also Indonesia correspondent for Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, where he undertook his journalist cadetship and worked for 22 years. At the Herald, Tom worked as investigations editor before leading the newspaper’s politics bureau in Canberra. Among the other senior posts he held at the Herald were national security editor, deputy news director and economics correspondent. He is a recipient of a Walkley Award, Australia’s most prestigious journalism prize.
