The club, founded in 1914, found its biggest successes on the national level when it won the Yugoslav First League in 1966 and 1989.

Ratko Butorović, also known as Bata Kankan, the president of the club, was arrested in January on suspicion of paying referees to help Vojvodina win a match against FC Mladost. Referees were also arrested, as was Vojvodina FC Sports Center Director Milan Čabrić. His trial continues.

Butorović owns Hotel Park, the biggest hotel in Novi Sad.
