Germany: Suspected Drug Courier, 9 Others Nabbed near Dusseldorf

A suspected drug courier was caught Sunday at the Dusseldorf airport with 15 kilograms (33 pounds) of cocaine hidden in his luggage. Police also arrested nine others in connection with an international drug trafficking investigation, according to a joint news release from prosecutors and police in Bochum, a city northeast of Dusseldorf. 

  According to the news release, the suspected courier was arrested after flying in from Sao Paulo via Madrid. The 35-year-old man was from Witten, which is adjacent to Bochum, according to the AP.

Police arrested eight men and a woman after raiding nine apartments, accusing the group of importing around 100 kilograms of cocaine valued at approximately € 3.5 million (US$ 3.86 million) and around 20 kilograms of marijuana, valued at approximately € 100,000 (US$ 110,000), according to the news release.
