Belarus authorities continue to keep the editor of the country’s oldest weekly and one of the last independent news outlets in the country incarcerated and have closed down the national journalist association in what is being seen as part of an ongoing crackdown on media.

It has never been more dangerous to be a journalist in Belarus, where President Alexander Lukashenko’s regime is trying to silence and suppress the independent media, reporters said at an online press conference in Minsk on Tuesday.
