The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) is seeking a Finance Director to oversee the organization’s financial operations. This is a senior position, and the successful candidate will be an individual with the potential to step up to the role of Chief Financial Officer in the medium term.

Location: This position is based at OCCRP’s headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with regular travel to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. OCCRP has a flexible work from home policy.

About OCCRP

OCCRP is a growing, global nonprofit media organization that is reinventing investigative journalism for the public good. By developing and equipping a global network of investigative journalists and publishing their stories, we expose crime and corruption so the public can hold power to account. We see a future where organized crime and corruption are drastically reduced and democracy is strengthened. Our global team includes editors, researchers, data engineers, security specialists, administrators, technologists, strategists, corruption experts, and connectors each with areas of in-depth expertise.

Currently OCCRP comprises a single non-profit entity, registered in the United States and operating out of Bosnia Herzegovina. It is about to establish a second non-profit entity registered in the Netherlands. The Finance Director will have responsibility for both organizations.

Position Overview

The Finance Director (FD) will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). The FD will lead the organization’s accounting and finance functions, and will be responsible for preparing financial statements, management accounts, and budgets and budget projections. The FD will work with the COO to develop medium and long-term financial forecasts, ensuring that OCCRP’s financial condition is able to support the organization’s strategic and operational objectives. The FD will work with the COO to ensure that the organization’s programs, development, and HR departments are operating at maximum efficiency, and in concert with the organization’s strategic and operational needs. The FD will be present and active in Board meetings, advising the Board on strategic and tactical matters relating to financial strategy and status, risk management and compliance, and short-term and long-term planning.

The FD will maintain and develop a culture of measurement, accountability and service within the finance and accounting teams. The successful candidate will have excellent people management skills, ensuring that team members are able to develop their technical skills and achieve personal and career goals.
