Deputy Managing Editor

07 August 2019

Location: This position is based in OCCRP’s Sarajevo office

Date of Issuance: 07 August 2019

Deadline: September 06, 2019

Terms: This position is full-time, pending a standard six-month probation period.

The Journalism Development Network (JDN), operating as OCCRP (the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project), is one of the world’s largest investigative reporting organizations. Headquartered in Sarajevo, and with a staff of over 100 employees around the world, our network of independent media centers in over two dozen countries produces ground-breaking cross-border investigative stories.

In just the last few years, we’ve published the Panama Papers, the Paradise Papers, the Troika, Azerbaijani, and Russian Laundromats, and many other large, collaborative, investigative projects.

We’re not done yet — and we need you. OCCRP is looking for a talented, ambitious, and tenacious deputy managing editor to help us run (and improve) our unique — and uniquely challenging — editorial workflow.

This is a leadership position on the “core” editorial team, which commissions and accepts stories from a network of member centers, regional editors, and freelance journalists that stretches across the world. The production of these stories requires rapid, effective coordination with their authors and originating editors, as well as our other departments, such as security, technology, data, and research.

This is a demanding position. It requires exceptionally good news judgement and journalistic sense, excellent editing skills, the ability to “sell” difficult edits to stubborn writers, comfort juggling competing demands, the ability to work effectively with both more and less senior editors, and much more. In return, you assume a key role at an organization that, for years, has been on the leading edge of investigative journalism.

If you’re interested, please send a resume, cover letter, and several clips or writing samples to by 06 September, 2019.
