France's former Minister of Justice and Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, faces a requested four-year sentence for allegations of corruption and influence peddling stemming from her alleged lobbying work for the Renault-Nissan carmaking group between 2009 and 2013, OCCRP media partner Le Monde reports.
Almost a week after the opening of her trial in Paris, French prosecutors on Monday requested a four-year prison sentence for Dati, who currently serves as the mayor of a Paris arrondissement, with two years suspended and two years of house arrest. Prosecutors accuse Dati of receiving 900,000 euros (over $1 million) for providing consulting services to a Dutch subsidiary of Renault-Nissan without actually performing any work, all while serving as a Member of the European Parliament and working as an attorney.
Prosecutors also sought a four-year jail term for co-defendant Carlos Ghosn, the former CEO of Renault-Nissan who is being tried in absentia over charges including abuse of corporate assets, breach of trust, corruption, and active trading in influence.
