Based in Kyiv, Matthew Kupfer is a regional editor at OCCRP focused on Central Asia.
Before joining OCCRP, he spent three years at the Kyiv Post, first as a reporter and later as the publication’s news editor. Previously, he worked as managing editor at Hromadske International and senior editor at the Odessa Review in Ukraine. He also worked as a staff reporter at the Moscow Times in Russia. He has contributed to EurasiaNet.org, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and the Atlantic Council’s UkraineAlert. In 2013-2014, he was a junior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
Matthew holds a master’s degree in Russian and Eurasian studies from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University. Besides his native English, he is fluent in Russian and also speaks Ukrainian.
