Based in Sarajevo, Lawrence Marzouk joined OCCRP in 2019 and is a regional editor for the Balkans. He started his career in 2003 with regional newspapers in London and later in Brighton, UK. In 2009, he moved to Kosovo to work for the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, where he edited its English-language newspaper, Prishtina Insight, and launched a new investigative journalism portal.
Since 2013, he has focused on building and training cross-border teams of journalists, investigating corruption in the road-building and energy sector, the funneling of arms to the war in Syria, and the rise of far-right extremism. He has won a number of national, regional, and international awards for his work.
Lawrence is also the author of “Follow the Paper Trail,” a guide to document-based investigative journalism in Kosovo, and “Exposing the Truth,” a manual for journalists in Albania. He is the co-author of “Getting Started in Data Journalism.”
